In Preparation for Lent

In Preparation for Lent

This Lent, let us take time to reflect on the mystery of Christ's sacrifice. | Image source: imgkid

Lent is an important event within the Church. We can all see why: it’s when we remember the sacrifice done by Jesus Christ when he died on the cross to save us from sin. If we are to celebrate his birth, we also need to keep in mind how he gave his life for us.

How do we prepare for Lent? What do we need to do to get ready for the season? Below are a few ideas you may want to follow.

1. Focus on God’s blessings.

The defeat of sin by Christ’s sacrifice is perhaps the greatest blessing we have ever received, among others. Instead of counting our sorrows, we should also learn to appreciate all the things that God has done for us.

2. Celebrate the death of sin with others.

Don’t make it a point that you won’t be bringing others to the fold. Whenever you go to church, tag along with friends and family members so you can reflect on the mystery of the cross, where Jesus Christ himself made his sacrifice.

3. Plan on what to do on specific days.

Which prayers should you recite on Ash Wednesday? How are you to show repentance during Good Friday? It’s really up to you! You may watch a movie about repentance, forgiveness, or those which give out a message of hope! It’s not really a problem, either way!

Whatever you may intend to do this Lent, always consider that the greatest love of all was conveyed by God when he allowed Christ to be sacrificed on the cross for all our transgressions. Remember that such is the true essence of Lent. And although it may seem like a sad season, joy will follow soon as we await for his resurrection and celebrate it during Easter.
